Dear Gail,
I am writing to tell you what a pleasure and an honor I found it to work with you on the publicity for my recent non-fiction trade book, Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men. I would like to tell you specifically some of what I most appreciated:
The time you spent with the book before we began. I felt you got to know the book really well and developed a profound understanding of what I was trying to accomplish with what I had written.
The number of interviews you got me, and their geographical range. I would have been happy with half the number of radio interviews you were able to set up. The interviews covered the eastern seaboard and the West Coast, and there were several Midwest interviews as well, in addition to a few national shows, allowing me to feel that I had covered large chunks of the country.
The quality of the interviews. You have built relationships with radio personalities that take their subjects seriously, prepare themselves ahead of time to ask intelligent and interesting questions, and who know how to make the guest feel comfortable. I was able consistently to leave interviews feeling that I had gotten the crucial messages about my book across.
The concrete impact the interviews had on public awareness of the book and of my work. I cannot count the number of people who told me, “I heard you on the radio the other day.” A few days ago I was hired to travel to Minnesota to give a day of training in my field by an agency that learned about me from hearing a broadcast of one of the Midwestern interviews you arranged for me. People have reported having heard me on the radio in Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and at least one other place that I can’t remember at the moment. I was left feeling that many thousands of people had been reached through our work together. And although there is no way that I can identify the cause, the reality is that sales of my book climbed steadily during the weeks that I was regularly on the radio.
I cannot thank you enough for the role you have played in making my book become an important publishing event, and in advancing both my own career and my goals for social change.
Sincerely,
Lundy Bancroft
